This is the best indication so far that Valve hasn't forgotten about Linux

Valve has manged to become the biggest gaming distribution platform in the world and until recently it was only available for the Windows platform, but now there is hope that a Linux version of Steam will follow.

There have been some rumors, for a couple of years, that Valve will start to officially release a Linux version of their Steam client, but these informations have failed to materialize.

In 2011, Valve launched Steam for Mac OS, and the Linux community started to hope again that it will receive some form of support, but nothing happened.

Now it seems that another rumor has been triggered by the appearance of a job listing, on Valve's official website, entitled “Senior Software Engineer”. One of the responsibilities of this person will be "Porting Windows-based games to the Linux platform".

Presumably, Valve will start to port their own games, like Portal 2 and Half-Life 2, to Linux. The indi Humble Bundles already provided a lot of native games so there is no shortages of titles that could potentially be promoted through Steam. Let's hope it doesn't take them forever to actually release Steam for Linux.
