The Chronic Dev Team has just released a few minutes ago the a new version of their Absinthe jailbreak tool for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 devices, bringing support for the Linux platform.

Until now, the Absinthe untethered jailbreak utility for Apple A5 devices had support only for thr Mac and Windows operating systems, but starting with version 0.3 Absinthe also supports Linux.

Absinthe has support for the following iOS devices and firmwares: iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0 and 5.0.1 (9A405 and 9A406) and iPad 2 Wi-Fi/GSM/CDMA running iOS 5.0.1.

Absinthe for Linux is distributed under a tar archive with binaries for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. We've tested it under Ubuntu 11.10 (amd64) and it works fine (see image above).

Before starting any jailbreak, please make a backup of your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 device! Download Absinthe 0.3 for Linux right now from here.
