Canonical, through Andres Rodriguez, has recently announced that the 1.7 version of their MAAS (Metal as a Service) software that brings the language of the cloud to physical servers will arrive soon with multiple new features.

The MAAS 1.7 SRU (Stable Release Update) has been finalized and sent to testers, so you should be able to upgrade from MAAS 1.5, which is about to reach end of life, in the coming days. Detailed installation instructions are provided in the announcement.

"When MAAS 1.5 reaches its end of life, all users on 1.5 will need to migrate to 1.7 for continued support. Before they can do so, we are requesting upgrade testing for all of 1.5 users in order to ensure the best experience possible," says Andres Rodriguez.

With this announcement, system administrators are being informed that they must be aware of the new features implemented in the MAAS 1.7 stable release update before upgrading from version 1.5.

These include a static IP range that must be manually configured, a new image store, and a new maas-clusterd daemon. Also, MAAS 1.7 removes support for RabbitMQ and Celery, and maas-proxy is now preferred instead of squid-deb-proxy.
