The project has been placed on a hiatus, but Canonical hasn't canned it

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS is still a long way out, but it seems that Canonical hasn't abandoned its plans to also release a reliable Ubuntu for TVs version of its distribution.

Ubuntu for TV was shown a while ago during a CES conference, but very little has been heard about it since and people believed that the project had been canned. That is definitely not the case.

“The least active project is the TV. It has been put on something of a backburner as we focused on bringing these other form factors up. We showcased the TV and the TV is basically a product that works. It's still not as complete a we liked it to be.”

“The TV right now it's maintained, we're out there selling it, but we focused on the 13.10 cycle on the phone,” said Jono Bacon, community manager for Ubuntu.

It's not sure when we are going to see it in stores (if ever), but it's good to know that they haven’t abandoned the project.
