Ubuntu for Android is an interesting piece of technology and it's based on Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin), according to its developers.

Canonical has demonstrated how easy it is to plug in your Android-based phone and get the full Ubuntu desktop experience on a monitor that supports HDMI.

“Ubuntu for Android is using precise (12.04). 12.04 is a LTS release that gets longer term support and is easier to maintain a product with. Unless there's a compelling reason, we probably won't move forward until the next LTS,” stated one of the Ubuntu for Android developers during an AMA (ask me anything) session on Reddit.

It's unclear whether the Ubuntu for Android promised for Ubuntu Edge, the superphone from Canonical, will be using the same version shown so far, or if it will be based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

Ubuntu for Android is a piece of software that allows you to use your Android phone as if it were a PC by plugging it into a monitor. Users will get the complete Ubuntu desktop on the monitor.
