A new important application is about to arrive

One of the things that Ubuntu Touch will definitely need once it is launched on mobile devices is a solid navigation app, and modRana seems to be the first that will make it.

Before getting stuff like Waze on Ubuntu Touch, developers will most likely port apps that are already open source. modRana fits into this category and it's already able to run on Linux systems, like Sailfish OS, which is currently powering the Jolla phones and tablet.

Mike Sheldon, one of the devs from Canonical, has started to work on a port for modRana, and it looks like things are progressing nicely. One of the cool features of this particular app is offline navigation, which can be considered a premium feature for other applications. On Ubuntu Touch, it is free with modRana.

Ubuntu Touch is developed by Canonical and the team is getting very close to a shippable version that will land on phones in just a few months. There are very few important bugs left to be dealt with and soon users from all over the world will be able to buy a phone with an Ubuntu operating system on board.

We took a closer look at Ubuntu Touch RMT Update 10, which was released a few days ago and it looks great.
