Canonical has to quickly decide what to do with these apps

Ubuntu Touch has just become the only mobile platform to have an app for adult content in the store, although this kind of fame might be short-lived.

No respectable store allows adult content and this is true for big ones like Google Play Store or the App Store from Apple. These platforms have a very strict policy about what gets in their stores, even if they might enforce it after an application has been already admitted. Now Ubuntu for phones faces a similar dilemma and Canonical needs to figure this out quickly. Once you open the floodgates, it will be hard to stop the rest.

We showed that it's really easy to publish apps in the Ubuntu Store, even if you don't have any kind of coding experience. Youporn is just a web app that links to a website with adult content and the developer even said that it was written just in jest, but it still raises some interesting questions that Canonical needs to answer, sooner or later.

It's not enough to just make sure that the apps can't hurt the operating system and security is not the only issue that needs to be addressed, albeit it's an important one. Some decisions regarding the actual content of the apps must be made.

Ubuntu for phones is available right now on Nexus 4 and BQ Aquaris devices, and it will soon land on Meizu MX4. Having adult content in the store will probably be a topic of discussion at one of the future meetings.
