Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 LTS has been released along with all the other flavors of Ubuntu and it’s based on GNOME 3.10. We prepared a screenshot tour to illustrate some of the features.

The developers had to implement the 3.10 branch of GNOME in the latest version of the distribution because the cycle for the 3.12 release didn’t coincide with the Ubuntu development cycle.

“Ubuntu GNOME Team has gone the extra miles by putting extraordinary efforts to the point, the team was ready to apply for the LTS Status. We have done all what we could to achieve that and indeed we have and therefore, we gained and deserved the LTS Status. Without a doubt, that is a huge achievement in our history,” reads the official announcement.

Not all the GNOME 3.10 packages have been integrated into the distribution, but the rest can be found in a helpful PPA, ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3. Also, users will be able to install gnome-weather, gnome-maps, gnome-photos and gnome-music, the online accounts have been improved, and the GNOME Classic session has been integrated.
