Ubuntu GNOME 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) was launched on April 25, along with the Ubuntu and Kubuntu flavors.

The developers have decided to stick with the 3.6 branch of GNOME, at least during this release cycle. Users will be able to upgrade to a newer version, 3.8, with the help of a PPA.

Besides the known changes in Ubuntu GNOME 13.04 (Raring Ringtail), there are still some unresolved problems. The ‘Install Alongside’ option, which is available during the installation, doesn’t work, and there are two Online Account entries within System Settings.

Ubuntu GNOME 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) uses the 3.8.0-19.29 Ubuntu Linux kernel that was based on the 3.8.8 upstream Linux kernel version.

More details about the first GNOME-flavored Ubuntu can be found in the official announcement.
