Ubuntu GNOME 13.04 Beta 2 (Raring Ringtail) was announced along with its older brothers, bringing the GNOME desktop back to all the Ubuntu fans.

Ever since Canonical has decided to scrap the GNOME support and devote their precious time on improving Unity, the Ubuntu users were pining for a return of one of their favorite desktop environments.

Ubuntu GNOME 13.04 Beta 2 is still based on GNOME 3.6, but the users will be able to install the latest 3.8 branch from an official PPA.

To keep the distribution in line with the other operating systems, the developer has replaced GNOME Web (Epiphany) with Firefox, and introduced Ubuntu Software Center. Also, LibreOffice took the place of Abiword and Gnumeric.

You don't have to fret, the applications are still available in the official repository and can be installed at any time.

Download Ubuntu GNOME 13.04 Beta 2 (Raring Ringtail) right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a beta version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
