Canonical will unveil its new Ubuntu OS next week

Canonical, through Stéphane Graber, has announced today that the forthcoming Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) computer operating system is now in Final Freeze and will be released to the public next Thursday, April 23, 2015.

Final Freeze means that Ubuntu developers and application maintainers are not allowed to upload any updates to internal components, except if they contain critical bugfixes. This way, the release team can concentrate on preparing the final ISO images for the distribution.

"So as of a bit over an hour ago, we've entered the Final Freeze in preparation for the release of Ubuntu 15.04," says Stéphane Graber on behalf of the Ubuntu Release Team. "As usual, this means that you should refrain from uploading any seeded package which doesn't contain a release critical fix."

Dubbed Vivid Vervet, Ubuntu 15.04 is the next major release of the world's most popular free operating system. It brings a wide range of new features, updated applications, and improvements to existing components.
