Mark Shuttleworth, father of the popular Ubuntu operating system, announced a few minutes ago, October 18, the codename of the upcoming Ubuntu 14.04 LTS operating system.

While some of us are enjoying their brand-new Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) operating system, the Ubuntu developers are hard at work, concentrating their efforts on the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS release, codenamed Trusty Tahr.

"So our titular totem, our tamper-proof taboo, our tranquil memento of mission and dues, our topical target of both cry and hue, the name for our LTS thoughtful and true: I give you, as Seuss would, with hullabaloo, the temperate and thrifty, the talented and tactful but ultimately, and tellingly, trusty tahr," said Mark Shuttleworth in his blog announcement.

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS will be officially released on April 17, 2014 and will keep the same release schedule as the current Ubuntu releases.

What’s a Tahr? Well, according to Wikipedia, a Tahr is some sort of wild goat. More details can be found in the Wikipedia article.
