Canonical has just updated the Linux kernel for the upcoming Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) to the latest stable development version, 3.11 RC5.

Canonical developers are well underway to reach their declared goal, to implement the 3.11 kernel by the time of the launch. The developers have now pushed the latest Linux kernel development version, which was released only a few days ago.

“We have decided to target the v3.11 kernel for Saucy. As such, we have uploaded a new Saucy kerel based on the v3.11-rc5 upstream kernel,”

“We'll continue following the -rc and final releases for v3.11 and plan to pick up the extended upstream stable maintenance for the duration of Saucy's support cycle,” stated Canonical’s Joseph Salisbury.

Just update the operating system and you will get the latest version of the kernel. Enter the following commands in a terminal:

sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade The system will perform the update and you will get the latest kernel in place.
