Canonical developers are preparing for the release of Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) and the final touches are applied to the distribution, which includes the stable version of the Linux kernel that will be implemented.

Ubuntu 13.10 will fulfill its original target of implementing the latest stable Linux kernel by the time of launch, 3.11. A second update for this branch of the kernel has been added.

“The Saucy kernel is currently rebased onto the v3.11.2 upstream stable kernel. If any patches need to land in Saucy, they need to be submitted immediately. We are currently 2 days away from Ubuntu Kernel Freeze for Saucy. Any patches submitted after Kernel Freeze will be subject to our SRU policy.,” stated Canonical's Joseph Salisbury.

The final freeze for Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) is set for October 10, and the official release date for the operating system is October 17.
