On April 30, Canonical, through Adam Conrad, sent an email to all Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) users notifying them that the operating system is no longer supported starting May 1, 2015.

The fact of the matter is that April 30, 2015, was the last day when the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS distribution received security patches and software updates from Canonical.

"This is a follow-up to the End of Life warning sent last month to confirm that as of today (April 30, 2015), Ubuntu 10.04 is no longer supported," says Adam Conrad in the email.

As such, all Ubuntu 10.04 LTS users are instructed to upgrade their operating systems to the latest LTS (Long Term Support) release, Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr), as soon as possible.

However, to upgrade to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS from Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, you will have to upgrade to the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) operating system first. Detailed instructions are provided by Canonical here and here.

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) was released five years ago, on April 29, 2010. It will be archived on the old-releases.ubuntu.com website in the coming weeks. This announcement is for the Server edition of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, as the Desktop flavor reached the end of life back on May 9, 2013.
