Canonical has announced on December 3 that the Ubuntu development team has released an updated Linux kernel package for its Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) operating system, fixing two vulnerabilities discovered in the upstream Linux 2.6 kernel packages by various developers.

While the first security issue is related to a flaw discovered in the Linux kernel's KVM, which could allow an administrative user in the guest OS to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) attack in the host OS, the second one is about multiple integer overflow flaws that were discovered in the Alchemy LCD frame-buffer drivers of the Linux kernel, which could allow an unprivileged local user to gain administrative rights.

The security flaws can be fixed if you upgrade your Ubuntu 10.04 LTS system(s) to the linux-image-2.6.32-54 (2.6.32-54.116) package(s). To apply the update, run the Update Manager application or follow the instructions provides here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Security/Upgrades. Don't forget to reboot your computer after the upgrade!
