The latest Beta is the most exciting release

OpenTTD is an open source simulation game based on the popular Microprose title Transport Tycoon written by Chris Sawyer. It's been around for quite some time and it's still played by many gamers, even today. A new major release is in the making and the first Beta has been released.

The original Transport Tycoon was released back in 1995 and met its demise a few years later, but there was always a core group of players that couldn't let it go. The OpenTTD project aims to improve upon the original game, in every way possible. It has surpassed it a long time ago, and despite its looks, this is pretty much a very modern game.

"The first beta release of OpenTTD 1.5 has all the goodies from 2014: Hierarchical vehicle groups, update-able NewGRF presets, custom vehicle list filtering, more heightlevels for maps, and a scalable user interface for your new 3K display! What, you didn't get one? Hmm, maybe Santa focussed too much on digital stuff then..." wrote the devs on the official website.

OpenTTD shows no sign of slowing down and that's a good omen for fans of this simulation. In fact, if the company keeps delivering more and more updates, they might get a lot of new players from the newer generation, thus increasing the community with some fresh blood.

Check out the changelog for a complete list of updates and fixes. You can download OpenTTD 1.5.0 Beta 1 right now from Softpedia and it's likely that it's going to start pouring RCs right after the holidays.
