The alternative kernel build is based on Linux 3.18.14 LTS

On May 25, François Dupoux had the pleasure of informing us about the immediate availability for download of a new maintenance release of his SystemRescueCd 4.5 distro.

SystemRescueCd is a Live CD that contains all sorts of utilities, which help advanced users and experienced system administrators with all sorts of system rescue and recovery operations.

According to the attached changelog, SystemRescueCd 4.5.3 is here to update both the standard and the alternative kernels, as well as some of the most essential core components, including partclone, gptfdisk, testdisk, and btrfs-progs.

As such, SystemRescueCd 4.5.3 the standard kernels (rescue32 + rescue64) are now based on the upstream Linux kernel 3.14.43 LTS, and the alternative kernels (altker32 + altker64) are based on the upstream Linux kernel 3.18.14 LTS.

The partclone partition cloning and restoring utility has been updated to version 0.2.77, and the btrfs-progs package that consists of all the userspace programs needed to create, modify, correct, and check Btrfs filesystems has been updated to version 3.19.1.

Lastly, the GPT fdisk disk partitioning tool that contains the well-known gdisk, sgdisk, cgdisk, and fixparts programs has been updated to version 1.0.0, and the TestDisk 7.0 free and open-source data recovery software tool has been included in SystemRescueCd 4.5.3.
