Valve has just announced a new Beta version for its Steam for Linux client, bringing quite a few fixes and new features.

Valve usually pushes a few Beta updates before upgrading the stable branch of Steam, and this is just one of these versions.

One change in particular should make Linux users happy. According to Valve, Steam is now able to better track games that use an intermediate launcher under Linux.

Also, an overall network activity graph has been added to the downloads page, the transition in Big Picture when launching a game has been improved, and a RESET option has been added when configuring a game controller.

Users don't have to reinstall the application in order to get all these changes. A message prompt will be offered and users just have to accept it.

You can also download the Steam installer from Softpedia if you don't have the client, but you do have to be enrolled in the Beta program in order to get these fixes.
