A new Steam beta version has been launched by Valve

Steam for Linux has been officially released for a while now, but the development on the beta branch continues, offering more features and bugfixes.

Highlights of Steam for Linux Beta:

• Automatic repair capabilities added for critical Steam files and no internet connection required; • Some cases where Steam could get stuck in offline mode and be unable to launch have been fixed; • A crash that could occur when canceling a client update or repair operation has been corrected; • An error message that appeared when canceling the client update process has been fixed; • Steam UI glitches, which occurred when navigating to a new page and quickly pressing the Stop button, have been corrected; • A problem which occurred when re-installing Half Life 1, after uninstalling related game mods, has been corrected.
