Fewer Linux users started the Steam client in March

Valve publishes every month a software and hardware survey that show details about the Steam for Linux users, and the March results are quite surprising.

The Steam Linux user base has been rising continuously since the client was made available, but the March numbers are showing that it has entered a small decline and it now sits at 1.69%.

Valve hasn't released any official reason for this decline and it's unlikely that they will ever do. There are a couple of explanations for this phenomenon.

It's possible that the contraction of the Steam for Linux user base is normal and it falls into a pattern. It could rise again in April, especially if an important title will be launched.

Another reason for the decline could be the lack of major releases. A lot of smaller games were launch in March, but there is nothing that could influence the numbers, like Left 4 Dead 2 or Dota 2.

The complete survey can be found on Valve's official website.
