Valve has launched a new Beta version for its Steam for Linux client, with a couple of important fixes specifically tailored for the Linux platform.

When a development version garners sufficient changes, Valve promotes it to stable, and the work for the next beta starts almost immediately.

This is not a major release, but Linux users have been advised to upgrade their client, if they are enrolled in the Beta program.

According to the change log, a bug that caused Steam to hang on startup for some users has been corrected, and a bug that prevented Big Picture on Linux from becoming active again sometimes after a game exited, has been fixed.

More details about this latest release can be found in the official announcement. Download the Steam for Linux installer from Softpedia.
