Smoothwall Express, a free firewall that includes its own security-hardened GNU/Linux operating system and an easy-to-use web interface, is now at version 3.1 RC.
The current version of Smoothwall Express has arrived after four years of effort, which means a new build system and a fresh interface.
Highlights of Smoothwall Express 3.1 RC:
• The Linux kernel has been updated to version 3.4; • GCC has been updated to version 4.7.2; • Squid has been updated to version 3.3.5; • The build system has been improved; • Grub Legacy is now used to boot all drives; • The installation on KVM, VMWare and Hyper-V virtual systems is now officially supported; • The Smoothinfo mod has been integrated into the user interface.
A complete list of changes and improvements are available in the official announcement.
