Salix, a GNU/Linux distribution based on Slackware that is simple, fast, easy to use, and based on the Xfce desktop environment, is now at version 14.1 Beta 1.

Salix 14.1 Beta implements a large number of updates and changes, if we compare it with the first Alpha release in the series.

“First of all, there are changes with the installer. The most obvious change is that reposetup is run at the end of the configuration stage now. Also, if a hard disk with a GPT partitioning scheme is present, it should be detected and cgdisk should be run instead of cfdisk. This hasn't been tested at all though,” reads the announcement.

Also, Gstreamer 1.x packages have been included, along with GTK+3, and a new command line package management tool.

A complete list of new features can be found in the changelog. Download Salix Xfce 14.1 Beta 1 right now from the website.

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
