Simplicity Linux, a Linux distribution based on Puppy which uses the LXDE desktop, is now at version 14.1 Beta.

This first Beta version of Simplicity Linux, 14.1, has arrived and comes with quite a few new applications and changes.

“One of the big changes we have made this time around is that we have changed the default browser from Firefox to Chromium. This is based on what we have observed from CPU usage. Whilst Chromium may create a new instance per tab, we have noticed that Firefox uses far more CPU resources, which goes against what we are working towards – an efficient Linux distribution,” reads the official post.

Also, LibreOffice, Skype, Dropbox, OnLive, and WINE have been implemented, along with Java. A complete list of changes can be found in the announcement.

Download Simplicity Linux 14.1 Beta right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
