Luc Besson has used a real OS for this film

Linux systems have been spotted in all sorts of interesting places, but they don't usually make their ways into the movies. Well, from the looks of it, a Linux system has been used in Luc Besson's Lucy.

Hollywood doesn't have the best track record when it comes to providing an accurate rendering of an operating system in movies. The best example is probably the infamous "Shordfish," which pushes the concept beyond ridiculous. Producers usually prefer to hire an artist that has some futuristic idea of what an OS might look like. They never imagine that the real thing might be better.

This is an almost general rule, but there are some film producers and directors who go the extra mile and understand that people with real skill will be watching. They will be able to appreciate something real much better that something invented.

Luc Besson is one of them and he chose something real for Lucy (Scarlett Johansson) to use. It's stylized and sped up for the purpose of the scene, and it's impossible to say what OS it is precisely, but it's definitely a Linux one because it's using the Xfce desktop environment. The closest distro could be Debian.

We posted a trailer below, the Linux system can be seen at the 1.26 minute mark.

Enjoy!
