14 DAY TRIAL // SME Server, a simple, powerful and secure Linux server for networking and communications for small and medium enterprises, is now at version 8.0 Beta 7.
SME Server 8.0 Beta 7 is based on CentOS 5.7 and according to the developers SME Server 8 will be the next major release in the series. This is the last planned Beta version for SME Server 8.
There are a large number of changes and updates in SME Server 8.0 Beta 7, but there are only a few major ones: all the emails, even local, now require authentication, users can now use EXT4 instead of EXT3 (with due caution), and LDAP authentication can be enabled (cannot be disabled).
The developers also specified that CentOS 5 has dropped support for i586 and therefore SME Server 8 will not work on i586 hardware. A complete list of changes can be found here.
