Canonical wants to have as many apps as possible on Ubuntu Touch by the time the device launches, on October 17.

Ubuntu developers have initiated a contest in order to get people to build apps for the upcoming operating system for mobiles, Ubuntu Touch. They have just announced three winners.

The first prize from the 2013 Ubuntu App Showdown goes to Karma Machine, Saucy Bacon, and Snake. These are the three applications that managed to grab the top spot.

The Karma Machine is a complete Reddit app that does almost anything on the popular forum and it also takes advantage of touch gestures.

Saucy Bacon is an application that can be used to find and manage recipes for your favorite dishes. It uses the food2fork.com database and it comes with thousands of different recipes from all over the world.

The final app that made the cut is called Snake and it's actually an old game made for Meego that has been ported on Ubuntu Touch.

All there apps have already been published and they will be available for download when the operating system is launched.
