RAR, an archive manager that can be used to reduce the size of files and to decompress RAR, ZIP, and other file types, is now at version 5.20 Beta 3 and comes with a couple of new features.

People might not know that RAR is a tool that works on multiple platforms. It's better known as WinRAR on Windows, but it works just as well on Linux. The Win prefix is dropped and only RAR is used, but its functionality is the same. The only major difference is the fact that it lacks any kind of interface and it runs only in a terminal.

"The 'extract relative paths' option was ignored and full pathname was created when extracting a file from ZIP archive to a folder protected with user account control (UAC) and, if encrypted, archived file was opened in external editor, modified and saved, the previous beta stored this file back to archive without encryption," note the developers in the announcement.

These two are the only bugs corrected in this latest edition, but the development cycle is still young and more versions will arrive soon.

A complete list of changes are available in the official announcement. You can download RAR 5.11 Beta 3 right now from Softpedia. This is a binary file and you don't need to install it.
