Ubuntu developers are still working to introduce new features and packages for the upcoming 14.10 release, but now they have made great progress with Qt 5.3.

The developers have been trying to integrate Qt 5.3 into the current Ubuntu 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) build for some time, but there have been some small delays, mostly caused by various bugs. The problems have been solved and the Qt 5.3 packages are now in the repos.

“Qt 5.3.0 is now in utopic-proposed. Eight Qt modules auto-synced from Debian were already waiting there for the base modules, and they should start building shortly. Three more modules were made syncable in the process of packaging 5.3. Everything that was on the blocker list of the landing was resolved or whitelisted today. For example the emulator worked fine after today's additional fixes,” said Timo Jyrinki in an email update.

The Qt packages are very important for the Linux distribution and there are numerous applications that depend on them. Now, the devs have to make sure that the software already present in Ubuntu 14.10 is working with Qt 5.3 as well.

Ubuntu 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) is scheduled to arrive on October 23, but until then you can try the daily build (not for production use).
