QEMU, a generic and open source emulator and virtualizer that can run OSes and programs made for one machine, on a different machine, is now at version 1.2.1.

QEMU 1.2.1 supports virtualization when executing under the Xen hypervisor or using the KVM kernel module in Linux.

Highlights of QEMU 1.2.1:

• The add-fd/remove-fd QMP commands can now be used to pass file descriptors; • Support for LPAE (large physical address extensions) in the Cortex-A15 CPU is now provided; • PC87312 Super I/O chipset emulation for PreP is now possible; • PCI passthrough is now available for Xen fully-virtualized domains; • VGA and QXL cards will now show and use 16 MB of VRAM rather than 8 MB; • PC speaker audio card has been made available as default; • Passthrough of SCSI tapes and media changers now has better support.
