Porteus, a portable Linux operating system which can be installed on a USB device, CDROM, SD card or hard drive, and based on the Linux Live Scripts, has just reached version 2.1 RC2.

Porteus 2.1 RC2 has been released for the 32-bit and 64-bit architectures with numerous updates, although it's not yet ready for the stable status.

Highlights of Porteus 2.1 RC2:

• RAM requirements have been added for the Mate desktop; • A lot of the basic components have been updated; • The modules are now counting correctly in 'copy2ram' mode; • The 'ar' utility has been added because it's required by the deb2xzm script.

A complete list of changes can be found in the official announcement.

Download Porteus 2.1 RC2 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development release and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only.
