Pinguy OS 11.10 Pre-Alpha, a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu 11.10, was just announced by the Pinguy development team.

Being a pre-alpha version, users need to know that a lot of applications have not been included and some that are installed might even get removed in the next releases.

Pinguy OS 11.10 Pre-Alpha is based on the GNOME Shell, but the developers have assured us that there will also be a MATE version. Apparently GNOME and MATE don't get along, hence the need for two separate editions.

If users get the distro up and running, there is a chance that the windows might freeze. The advice is simple: use ctrl+alt+backspace to kill the app and go back to the login.

To enter the Shell dash press the Super key. There is no Compiz available because it doesn’t work with GNOME Shell.

Download Pinguy OS 11.10 Pre-Alpha right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development release and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only.
