The first development release of the Phoronix Test Suite 3.6 (Arendal) has just been announced, the final version being programmed to launch in the spring.

Phoronix Test Suite is the most comprehensive benchmarking and testing platform available for Linux and designed to carry out qualitative and quantitative benchmarks in a clean, reproducible, and easy-to-use manner.

The developers have stressed that there was heavy work done on Phodevi (the Phoronix Device Library), continued improvements to pts_Graph (the graphing component of the Phoronix Test Suite), and pts-core itself.

The most prominent changes in  Phoronix Test Suite 3.6-Arendal are:

· Greater detection of CPU features on the test system; · Better cleansing of hardware model strings for certain products; · Improved reporting and detection for AMD Bulldozer/FX series; · A new Phodevi sensor; · Virtualization detection improvements for VirtualBox and Xen DomU guests.
