The Linux distribution will be released this summer

David Tavares, the developer of the Pear OS Linux operating system, based on the popular Ubuntu Linux distribution, announced the goals of the next major version of his beloved distro, Pear OS 7.

Therefore, Pear OS 7 will be dubbed Corella and it will be based on Canonical’s Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal) operating system.

The upcoming distribution will include top-rated applications, such as the LibreOffice office suite, the Shotwell photo manager, the Empathy multi-protocol chat client or Geary Mail client.

Pear OS 7 will also include in-house applications like Pear Time Back, a clone of Apple’s Time Machine software for Mac OS X, Pear Browser, an Internet browser backed by WebKit, Pear Movie, a movie player powered by VLC, and On Air, a music player based on Noise.

New versions of MyPear, Pear Cleaner, Pear PPA Manager and Facebook app will also be present in the upcoming Pear OS 7 Linux distribution.
