On May 7, Opera Software, through Mateusz Madej, announced the immediate availability for download and testing of the Opera 31 web browser in the Developer channel, available for GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows, and Mac OS X operating systems.

Being based on the open source Chromium 44 web browser, Opera 31 Dev comes with a number of new features, such as Encrypted Media Extensions like Widevine DRM, proper drag and drop support in the Bookmarks Bar, touch support for tab dragging, and switching of the standalone Discover page to the Opera pages layout.

"Today we move to version 31 with our new developer 31.0.1857.0 build," says Mateusz Madej, a tester in Opera Desktop Team. "So far we’ve enabled Encrypted Media Extensions like Widevine DRM, while the rest of the features is hidden behind flags (happy hunting!). We will provide more information as we move on further into development of Opera 31."

Linux users will get an implementation of the libnotify library for native notifications, and there's H264 and MSE support enabled for all streams. Download Opera 31 for Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows right now from Softpedia. However, please note that this is a pre-release version that contains unresolved issues.
