The upcoming OpenWrt "Chaos Calmer" 15.05 open-source firmware for wireless routers is now closer to a final release, as the team has announced that the second RC (Release Candidate) version is available for testing.

According to the release notes, which we've attached at the end of the article for reference, OpenWrt 15.05 RC2 is now powered by Linux kernel 3.18.14 LTS, adds an HTTPS (Secure HTTP) enforcement option to the uhttpd daemon, addresses a umask issue, and introduces support for new boards.

Furthermore, the broken ImageBuilders have now been fixed for most targets, the stability of the sysupgrade tool has been improved for Broadcom bcm53xx and brcm47xx wireless router/AP SoCs, and special images have been added for ASUS bcm53xx and brcm47xx devices.

Lastly, the second Release Candidate milestone for OpenWrt 15.05 "Chaos Calmer" addresses issues with broken onlink-route handling functionality and IPv6 downstream DHCPv6-PD.

You can download OpenWrt 15.05 RC2 right now via Softpedia, but please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version and it is not suitable for production environments as it contains some rough edges. So don't install it on your normal router that you use every day!
