Canonical published details in a security notice about an OpenStack Heat vulnerability in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) that has been fixed.

Most of the security updates for Ubuntu systems are for known packages, but some of them are a little more exotic than others. This is not a major problem for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, but upgrading the system would be a good idea.

According to the security notice, “Jason Dunsmore discovered that OpenStack heat did not properly restrict access to template information. A remote authenticated attacker could exploit this to see URL provider templates of other tenants for a limited time.”

For a more detailed description of the problems, you can see Canonical's security notification. Users should upgrade their Linux distribution in order to correct this issue.

The flaw can be fixed if you upgrade your system(s) to the latest python-heat package specific to each distribution. To apply the patch, users can simply run the Update Manager application.

If you don't want to use the Software Updater, you can open a terminal and enter the following commands (you will need to be root):

sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes. Restarting the computer is needed to complete the updating procedure and to fix the issue.
