FlightGear, an open-source flight simulator that supports a variety of popular platforms and is developed by skilled volunteers from around the world, is now at version 2.12.

FlightGear aims to create a sophisticated and open flight simulator framework for use in research or academic environments, pilot training, or as an industry engineering tool.

Highlights of FlightGear 2.12:

• New tracking animation has been implemented; • Icebergs now appear in the arctic seas; • The transponder instrument system has been overhauled; • An ultra-high quality shader has been added; • The checklist feature has been expanded; • More planes are now compliant with the Rembrandt rendering technique; • A lot of new areas now feature region-specific texturing and auto-generated models/buildings.
