Nvidia has launched a patch series for the Linux kernel which adds support for the new Tegra 3 chipset that will be launched in November.

The new Tegra 3, codenamed Kal-El, is an architecture which integrates both a CPU and a GPU in the same chip. Nvidia is planning on launching this new generation of chips in November.

The (Kal-El) series will have a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore processor which can go up to 1.5 GHz, 12-Core Nvidia GPU with support for 3D stereo, and ultra low power GPU mode, video output up to 2560×1600, 1080p MPEG-4 AVC/h.264 High Profile video decoder, and will be built of course by TSMC.

It's no wonder that Nvidia plans on getting Linux support with the new chip before the launch, as stated in the patch itself: “Support for NVIDIA Tegra T30 processor family, based on the ARM CortexA9MP CPU and the ARM PL310 L2 cache controller”.
