Of all the red variants out there, Nokia had to pick Debian Red

When Linux users hear about Debian they know instantly that it's one of the best and most popular operating systems out there. Nobody thinks that it might be a new firmware for a Windows-powered Nokia phone.

Nokia uses colors to name the firmware updates for their phones and that is their choice. The current generation is called Cyan, the previous one was called Black, and the upcoming firmware should be called Magenta or simply Red.

Somehow, somewhere, it was decided that the name of the upcoming Nokia Lumia 730 firmware should be Debian Red. The name might mean nothing to most of the Windows users, but it's not the same for the Linux community.

After a little bit of digging, it turns out that Debian Red is actually a color, with the hex code #d70a53. This should not be a problem and nobody should really care about what name Nokia chooses, but let’s take a look at the current generation.

If you check Google you will notice that Nokia Cyan is all over the news, everyone is taking about it, and this is how it's referred to. Why you would add to the confusion by releasing a product that has the name of another important piece of technology that’s already well established is beyond my understanding.

In a few months’ time, Linux users will be reading about the new Nokia Lumia 730 with Debian Red Firmware while scratching their heads in disbelief. Maybe Debian Red is the perfect color and all the other red colors were already taken.
