Canonical has recently announced that a new kernel update is available for its Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal) Linux operating system, fixing three vulnerabilities found in the Linux kernel packages by various developers.

The following three Linux kernel vulnerabilities affect Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal): CVE-2013-1819, CVE-2013-2237 and CVE-2013-4254. They are related to issues with the XFS filesystem, IPSec key_socket, and the ARM perf subsystem.

To learn more about each vulnerability, click on the links above, or go here for in-depth descriptions, as it affects other Linux operating systems as well.

The security flaws can be fixed if you upgrade your Ubuntu system(s) to the linux-image-3.5.0-41 (3.5.0-41.64) package(s). For that, you can use the included Update Manager tool, or visit the following link for detailed instructions: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Security/Upgrades.

Don't forget to reboot your computer after the upgrade! In the same news, we inform Ubuntu users that Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) also received kernel updates this week.
