AMD released a couple of days ago, on August 15th, version 12.8 of the AMD Catalyst video driver for Linux platforms, brining production support for the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) operating system.
So, as usual, the newly released AMD Catalyst 12.8 (based on the fglrx 8.982 release) graphics driver has no official announcement from AMD.
However, now that the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) distribution is officially supported, users should get it and test it, and report back the performance.
AMD Catalyst 12.8 video driver is available for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures, and it offers production support for the following Linux-based operating systems: Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Novell SUSE Enterprise Linux, openSUSE Linux and Ubuntu Linux.
