Snort, an open source network intrusion prevention and detection system (IDS/IPS) developed by Sourcefire, which combines the benefits of signature, protocol, and anomaly-based inspection, is now at version 2.9.5.

“We've rolled up a large number bug fixes and made some other additions and improvements into this release,” reads the announcement.

Highlights of Snort 2.9.5:

• The tracking of the FTP data channel for file transfers is now possible; • Decoding support has been added for Cisco ERSPAN; • The tracking of HTTP uploads as file_data for Snort rules is now possible; • The ability to use event filters with PPM rules has been added; • A decoding alert has been added for the IPv6 Routing type 0 header.
