Snort, an open source network intrusion prevention and detection system (IDS/IPS) developed by Sourcefire, which combines the benefits of signature, protocol, and anomaly-based inspection, is now at version 2.9.4.6.

The developers of Snort have apologized for moving too fast with the version number, but it seems it was necessary to do so in order to align with the open source build.

Highlights of Snort 2.9.4.6:

• The support for the DAQ verdicts of whitelist and blacklist, for 6in4 and 4in6 encapsulated traffic, has been improved; • Changing the length of the IP options in frag3 is now avoided, especially when receiving duplicate 0-offset fragments that have IP options.
