NetBSD, a free, fast, secure, and highly portable Unix-like Open Source OS available for a wide range of platforms, from large-scale servers and desktop systems to handheld and embedded devices, is now at version 6.0 Beta.

According to the developers, NetBSD 6.0 Beta is feature complete, which means that there are some additional changes to the installer and possibly some additional hardware support.

Highlights of NetBSD 6.0 Beta:

• LKMs module was removed; • A new utility based on ddb(4) to diagnose kernel crashes was added; • Multiprocessor support for Xen PV DomUs was added; • ARM platforms now have support for Cortex-A8 CPUs; • An in-kernel iSCSI initiator, from Wasabi Systems, was added; • CHFS, a file system for flash(9) devices, was added; • GCC 4.5.3 is now the default compiler.
