The display server developed by Canonical, Mir, should be in working order by the time Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) will be launched.

The Ubuntu Developer Summit is in full effect and all sort of information is coming out. One of the most interesting features about Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) is that it will have Mir as a log-in option during boot.

It’s not clear yet whether the option will be integrated in GRUB or in LightDM, but the Canonical developers are saying that users will have a workable version of Mir by the time Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) will be out.

It’s still a mystery what Canonical will do about the use of proprietary drivers in conjunction with the Mir display server, but this should be sorted out before October.
