Mark Shuttleworth has announced that if the Ubuntu Edge crowd-funding campaign comes to fruition, Canonical will provide support for six years after its launch.
The scheduled release of Canonical’s Ubuntu Edge phone is May 2014, which coincidently is right after the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS release.
“We want to support the edge with updates to 14.04 LTS and then through the life of 14.04 LTS, which would be a total of 6 years,” stated the founder of Canonical, Mark Shuttleworth, during a live AMA (ask me anything) session on Reddit.
You might think this is the kind of information you would put on the IndieGoGo website, but the Reddit session was actually the first time this was revealed.
The Ubuntu Edge buyers have to keep in mind that Mark Shuttleworth was talking about the software support and not about the warranty of the product.
Canonical announced its Ubuntu Edge initiative just a few days ago. Check out our initial report for more details about this phone.
