Mageia, a GNU/Linux-based free operating system that started its life as a fork of Mandriva Linux and which is supported by a nonprofit organization of elected contributors, is now at version 4 Beta 1.

A new development version of Mageia has been made available, featuring a large number of changes and improvements, including a new Linux kernel.

“Finally we did it! Mageia 4 beta 1 has been, for sure, the most difficult release we had to face since the beginning of Mageia project. Lots of good and bad reasons here and again some improvements to be done on our development process,” said the developers.

According to the changelog, Mageia 4 Beta 1 comes with KDE 4.11.2, GNOME 3.10.1, and a number of other desktop environments.
