On August 10, the Mageia development team announced the immediate availability for download of the first Alpha release of the upcoming Mageia 4 operating system.

Being powered by Linux kernel 3.10.5, Mageia 4 Alpha 1 uses KDE 4.11 RC2, GNOME 3.9.5, LibreOffice 4.1, systemd 206, Qt 4.8.5, RPM 4.11.0, and Perl 5.18.0. The MATE and Cinnamon desktop environments are available in the default software repositories.

"Mageia 4 Alpha 1 is finally here! Some of it is at least, we’ve released the live isos today which you should find on your nearest mirror. It has been a proper alpha release this time with 5 rebuilds along the way."

"The classic installer DVDs may follow, or we may leave them for now and release them with alpha2. Hopefully having all these issues at this stage will make the later stages much simpler," was stated in the official release announcement.

Mageia 4 Alpha 1 is distributed only as Live CD ISO images with the GNOME and KDE4 desktop environments, supporting both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures.

Download Mageia 4 Alpha 1 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is an alpha release and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only.
